After Action Report – 2nd Bn/8th Bde – JTX 22 APR 2019
One Sunday Sept 22 at 1000, members of the 2nd/8th, 4th/8th and the MDF took part in a Force on Force training event outside of the town of Conway, MO on private property.
There were 8 members and 2 guests from the 2/8, 4 members from the 4/8 and 7 members from the MDF for a total of 20 personal present at this field training exercise.
After formation we began the first FoF scenario. Two members of the MDF left before this scenario started due to a medical issue of one of the members. A member from the 2/8 was added to the MDF to accommodate the missing two members.
One member and one guest of the 2/8 were placed in the AO about 400 M from the TOC. These two represented the survivors of a ambush who were hiding in enemy territory. The MDF force acted as the OPFOR searching for these two survivors. After given 30 minutes to search the 120 acre property for these survivors the BlueFor represented by a squad of the MO Militia were to patrol to the location of the survivors and provide them security back to the TOC.
The BlueFor left the TOC and practiced bounding over watch with two teams toward the location of the two survivors. After reaching the second checkpoint Alpha team was hit by the OPFOR, Alpha took position and returned fire. Bravo immediately began flanking the OPFOR on the right side. The BlueFor reacted correctly and were successful in eliminating the threat. We called Endex did a quick AAR in the field and then retrieved our two survivors. We then proceeded to our next FoF scenario.
In the second scenario we had a smaller size unit make contact with a larger unit and then tactically break contact. The larger unit comprised of the MDF and the 4/8 for a 9 member squad. The smaller unit was 6 members of the 2/8.
Alpha team of the 2/8 made contact with the OPFOR and took position and returned fire, Brave team broke right and set to provide cover for Alpha's retreat. We covered and moved back in a SE direction from the OPFOR. The OPFOR observed this and also sent a team to counter our movement. The 2/8 engaged while at the same time continued to pull back from the area. The 2/8 had one casualty and the OPFOR had two, the 2/8 was able to successfully withdraw from the location of contact.
After the second scenario was finished we again had a AAR in the field and then returned to the TOC. We started to load up our vehicles as it began to rain. This was a successful training event that all enjoyed and were able to learn from as well.
