After Action Report – 1st Bn / 3rd Bde – 400m Rifle Qualification 13 OCT 2018
AAR
- Date: 13 OCT 2018
- Arrived at 0700.
- Setup the shooting mound.
- Formation, pledge of allegiance, prayer.
- We set up the targets at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. We left blank targets and a staple gun at each target, so we would be able to change all of the targets at the same time.
- Safety brief.
- Started shooting at 0830.
- 6 shooters participated:
- Trooper Bishop
- PFC Klotz
- PFC Peterson
- CPL Johnson
- PFC Schaffart
- SPC Wick
- Between each shooter we drove down to the 400yd berm dropping one person off at each target along the way. We replaced all of the targets at the same time. I picked everyone back up as I drove back to the shooting mound, and then we scored the targets before the next shooter started shooting. We did not leave anyone “down-range” so there was no chance of injury.
- Finished qualifications at 10:50.
- 3 members qualified:
- Trooper Bishop
- PFC Klotz
- PFC Peterson
- Then we cleaned up and took turns shooting through PFC Peterson’s chronograph, getting more accurate muzzle velocities for each of our rifles and even different ammunition manufacturers per rifle.
- We left our brass for L*** M*******.
- L*** seemed happy with how we conducted the event and invited us back anytime.
- I talked to him about shooting quarterly, and about bringing newbies out to coach them at 25m from the 400yd berm and he seemed happy with that.
- Finally, Klotz, Johnson, Peterson, Katlynn (Peterson’s Girlfriend), and Wick went to Buffalo Wild Wings in Independence, MO for lunch.
Sustains
- Good training.
- Safe.
- Got finished at 10:50AM (before noon!)
- No one hit the tail gate above the 300yd berm.
- 3 guys passed.
Improves
- Practice at L***’s range 4 times a year. Once a quarter.
- We can shoot at Schaffart’s property as well.
- Bring the new guys out to coach them on shooting at the 400 yard berm from 25m away. This will allow them to practice standing
