FIELD TRIP REPORT

Friday July 28th, myself and two other NMVM members went to the premiere of Aarron Russo's film America: From Freedom To Fascism. I first learned of this film last year when it was being screened all across the country through e-mail alerts from We The People Foundation (www.givemeliberty.org) and Joseph Bannister (www.freedomabovefortune.com) Since then I have told everyone about it and even posted it on the AWRM.org message board. Needless to say, I was more than a little excited. Prior to seeing the film I had soaked up all the trailers, TV spots, and downloaded the 14 minute promo and showed everyone who was willing. The film itself was, in a word, awesome. It was simultaneously refreshing, eye opening, and at times, absolutely frightening. The content of the film was presented in a very articulate way, in terms easy for anyone to understand, and nearly impossible for anyone to deny or ignore. The main subjects of the film were the legality of the federal income tax, the federal reserve and the validity of its currency, and finally, RFID and its links to the coming National ID card. The greatest part of the whole experience, was not the film itself, but the reaction of the audience. Throughout the film there were audible sighs and gasps, generous applause, and shouts of "Amen", "That's Right", and "Yeah!" At one point I witnessed a young man near the front raise up his fist. At the end, the whole audience stood in ovation. Upon leaving the theater people were standing in groups having open discussion on freedom and liberty. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and inspiration. The highlight of the evening was that I ended up sitting next to three gentlemen from Cinema Libre Studios and afterwords had the opportunity to speak with them. I was even given promotional materials for the film which I promptly began handing out. I also met a man by the name of Scott who was handing out cards promoting www.tax-freedom.com whom I had an excellent discussion with about the subjects of the film as well as the militia. I also ended up with a small crowd of my own with who I discussed the militia exclusively, even having one woman express her gratitude saying she "really appreciates what [myself and others] in the militia are doing for this country." I heard conversations of liberty in a Burger King near the theater which seemed to represent one of the many ripples moving outward from that theater and carrying with it a spreading truth and sincerity which by now is too late to stop. If you haven't seen this film yet, drop what you are doing and go see it now. It won't be in theaters for long and missing out on this kind of experience would be nothing short of a tragedy. Take a few friends with you too.

State Of The Units

New Year, New Resolution, Same Mission

As we are entering the 3rd month of the new year, it is natural for each of us to take a look at where we have been, and to determine where we are going. As an organization we must do this also. Routinely we assess our capabilities as best we can, but we must also evaluate the impact and success of our actions. Over the years the Missouri Militia has gone through many stages of readiness and received its fair share of public support and scorn. The coming years promise to be no different. There have however been some noteworthy progressions. First, is the consolidation of units under a common cause and purpose. Second, is the coming formation of a regional structure in SW Missouri in addition to the already established NW regional structure. The "Unorganized Militia" is becoming organized. In addition, we have been experiencing a steady flow of new people, allowing us to augment our fighting units with intelligence and logistics elements. Evidence of our increased public support can be found in the donations we have received of ammunition, gear, and advanced medical supplies, creating a supply stock for our logistics personnel. Individual qualifications have met or exceeded level 2 guidelines for nearly all members. Finally, at the last medical training, 18 people were certified in CPR and First Aid by the American Red Cross. Overall, it could be said that the "state of the units" is improving and moving toward being a professional, capable, and effective force. Our people are a wide variety of men and women of the highest caliber, the very backbone of this organization. In the coming months we have many events and training exercises planned which will motivate and challenge each of us, from the newest green recruit, to the 10 year veteran. We hope to continue this trend of improvement as we move toward being a better Missouri Militia. It is toward this end that we are now drafting new standards and a new method of training. These new standards are an adaptation of the National Militia Standards and will guide us in maintaining our level of professionalism. To the men and women who support and train with us, we thank you. We wouldn't be where we are without your dedication. To everyone still sitting on the fence, the time to get involved is now. We need your support more than ever. Let's make this a fun and productive year.

The Name Game Equals the Blame Game

How our addiction to labels is destroying our nation.

Have you ever been accused of being a liberal or a conservative? Have you ever been stereotyped as a democrat or a republican. Well I have, a lot. I've been accused of both in fact. Just because a person believes in one thing or another, they are often labeled as one of these demographics. Evidently if you believe that every American has a duty to defend themselves (see the American Revolution), or that it's o.k. for the average joe to own a gun (see U.S. Constitution), you are a conservative, republican, nutcase who should be put away for having such uneducated, redneck notions. On the other hand, if you believe that a womans body is her own choice (because its her body, even if abortion is wrong) or that its alright for two guys (or girls) to get married (and share the same burdens as straight people) you are a liberal, democrat who should be sent to Canada for having such elitist, unamerican inclinations. Well, I have been called all these names as well as many more colorful euphimisms. The few people who have actually taken the time to debate such issues with me in a civilized manner have often times discovered that my position on these issues does not fall into either of these categories. My position is that every American has a right to own whatever they want, do with it what they want, have whatever relationships they want no matter how bizarre, and to be free to have and express their own beliefs so long as they do not infringe upon the rights of another. Just because I may not agree with, support or like what other people do or how they choose to live their lives, does not mean that they are infringing on my rights. If I don't like what I see, I am free to look away. The problem lies with certain people or groups of people who seek to legislate or otherwise impose their visions, views or opinions on others. For instance, Gun Ban (and restriction) legislation, or legislation that would force a type of eminent domain over a woman's body who wants or needs an abortion is precisely the type of "I know what's best for you" crap fueling the oppression in this country. Personally, I think abortion is a horrible thing, and I believe that a traditional marriage is between a man and a woman. However, I do believe that every person owns themselves and I believe that marriage is a tradition and ceremony derived from religion and it should be that institutions choice to decide whether or not their particular God would recognize and allow it. Besides, who says they are getting married traditionally anyway. Come on, it's two guys (or girls) at a court house. If they want a big frilly ceremony, what do you care, you weren't invited. These beliefs often earn myself and others like me a reputation for being just plain crazy. So be it. I base my beliefs on the most fundamental human right, the right of self ownership. Amazingly I still get people who will argue that we do not have that right. It seems that in taking a stand one way or another, it automatically associates you with being either liberal or conservative. We see this in congress. However, they do not try to shun these labels, they embrace them. They "hunker down" and draw a line in the sand and prepare to call each other more names in an attempt to make the other side seem incompetent or evil, which is what prevents any progress from being made. I guess Progress must be the opposite of Congress. I would agree with H.L. Mencken that " under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule, and both commonly succeed, and are right." We see this in just about every election, especially with the constant back and forth migration of democrats or republicans being the majority in Congress. We go so many years with democrats "at the helm" and then when that doesn't work we move in the republicans. (All this unnecessary motion is making me seasick.) When will someone (besides me) stand up and make the point that the only people who should be "at the helm" is THE people. When I ask people about why they are voting for one candidate or another they always say "because (he/she) believes in (insert trivial cause.) My question to them is "why do you care what they believe." Their beliefs are not supposed to intrude into the political arena. "They" are supposed to be objective and ensure that the Constitution is adhered to, and that every American is indeed living their lives the way they want. Nothing more, nothing less. This does not mean (as is happening now) that they try to change the Constitution or pass laws, orders, decrees or whatever in order to support their vision of "utopia." I believe in absolute, individual liberty. I believe that once we let everyone just be who they are, we will have a lot less drama around here, because everyone will be too busy pursuing their own happiness to care about what so and so is doing. I'm not saying that life should be about a bunch of smiling idiots traipsing through the daisies with blatent disregard to those around them. People will still have a responsibility to not overstep the bounds of anothers liberty, and to defend the liberty of anyone so threatened. I believe that it is o.k. for any person so inclined to own a fully automatic machine gun if that's what floats their boat, as well as it being just super to let two guys do whatever it is that two guys do. That is liberty. Deal with it.

In the Interest of Preservation

A defense of values

It's been all over the news lately. Endless fighting and petty bickering over every issue that arises. Name calling and finger pointing abound. New legislation and Executive orders being brought about on a whim, as a way to take revenge or cause injury to the other side. The problem is that they should be on the same side, the side of the American people. Democrats fighting Republicans, liberals versus conservatives, both sides are sure they are right, but both sides are surely wrong. The rest of the world seems to be missing the point. They aren't looking at the big picture. They can't see past their little buzz words long enough to see that our nation is tearing itself apart…again. During the last election Americans were polarized and chose sides, nearly half with the Democrats, half with Republicans. However, this isn't about them, it never is. This is about hard working people and their families, and above all it's about the sacrifice that was made in order for us to live in a free society. But in this day words like sacrifice and freedom are thrown around so much that they have lost their meaning. Constitution, honor, courage, faith, liberty, truth, responsibility, are all concepts that have been discarded and left behind. Society today doesn't seem to care anymore. There is no sense of pride left in much of America. They seem to fight just to be fighting. They are so blinded by personal bias and partisan politics that nothing is ever done. Greed is the fuel by which this nation burns. There are many who do nothing and shout "Peace!" And one should ask, what is peace if brought by tyranny. Implied freedom is not freedom. The words of our fathers have fallen on deaf ears. There are few indeed, who would answer the call of preservation, too few in fact. It leads some to question the impact of their sacrifice, to question the worth of their cause. And the outlook is surely bleak, but not for those noble few. The few who still have the fortitude and the will to change the state of their nation. The few who, to use the words of my father, still have the "gumption" to effectively change the course of history. It is these few that we should be so lucky to have, for they will never turn their backs on us. We need to return to the roots of our heritage. To preserve the ideals once cherished by a new nation. We need to bring back the American values for which many men died to protect. Some may call this protectionism, or one of many other colorful terms, but these concepts were in their day, the most progressive and liberal ideas of the age. And history has a habit of repeating itself. For these ideas are now considered extreme by both sides. To me it would seem then that these ideas bring full circle certain aspects of the modern liberal and conservative. These ideas span the extremes of both ends of the spectrum encompassing it and provide a means by which the factions of our society may once again unite and restore true liberty. So there it is folks, a solution. A way to end the fighting, restore freedom, and bring about much needed changes to our government and our nation. It may not be perfect but I challenge you to come up with a better one. By this way we can achieve our goals through peace. But we cannot endure tyranny forever. The change now must occur within the mind of the American people. Until we can get the citizens of this nation to agree upon the goal of individual liberty, there will be no peaceful way to change. It would seem then, as George Washington once said,

"The time is now near at hand which must probably determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves; whether they are to have any property they can call their own; whether their houses and farms are to be pillaged and destroyed, and themselves consigned to a state of wretchedness from which no human efforts will deliver them. The fate of unborn millions will now depend on God and on the courage and conduct of this army. Our cruel and unrelenting enemy leaves only the choice of brave resistance, or the most abject submission. We have therefore, to resolve to conquer or die."

Perhaps we will avoid conflict and settle such a simple issue as freedom in a civilized manner. However, there has never been a time in the course of human events where the issue of freedom has been settled without conflict. It is the one issue for which there can be no compromise. The oppressed will always wish to be free, and the powerful will always want more power. There can be no negotiation when the price of compromise is the life of a human being. Freedom is not flexible, it is absolute. A man is either free or he is not. Any law, no matter how small, that infringes upon the liberty of just one person is a chain on the whole of humanity. Freedom cannot be judged by the size of the shackle. It is not measured by how many freedoms one may have, but whether he is free to have one more. I believe that it is indeed well within the human capacity to use common sense to achieve such a state through peace. But it will take the whole of the people to let go of the pettiness which they find so much comfort in. By whatever method we reach our goal is not as important as reaching our goal. And to quote Patrick Henry, "I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"


Homeland Insecurity

One patriots opinion of the way it should have been

When I first became aware of the distress that our nation is currently in, I was outraged. I could not fathom the depth of corruption that has infected so much of our government, our media, and the many major corporations conducting less than ethical business. Our congress is plagued by relentless partisan politics, which prevents any real progress from being made. Our elected officials have assumed the role of rulers instead of public servants. There is an endless flow of unnecessary, intrusive and unconstitutional legislation that abuses and oppresses the people. There is a continual and seemingly deliberate failure to secure our borders and protect our citizens. There is rampant overtaxation reminiscent of the type imposed on colonial America. There are so called "free trade" agreements that are exporting American jobs to cheap foreign labor markets and are thus destroying our economy. The various news media outlets have been proven ripe with personal bias, false reporting, sensationalism, and an overall failure to simply present the facts. Many corporations, from those specializing in global communications to simple retail stores have been engaged in illegal acts ranging from fraud to hiring illegal aliens. Our judicial system has exceeded its given powers and now overrides every aspect of individual liberty. It has moved beyond interpretation of law according to the Constitution, to making public policy and thus single handedly rewriting the Constitution. It seems that those in power seek to stay in power and have therefore legislated their own agendas. Samuel Adams once said, "If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men hold the highest seats in government, our country will stand in need of it's experienced patriots to prevent it's ruin." I find this statement to be increasingly relevant to the situation at hand. So the question is, How have we let ourselves get into such an intolerable condition. Simply put, we turned away. We assumed that our country would run itself. As the age of technology and "on-demand" entertainment became prevalent, we became concerned with ourselves. Many people assumed that the officials would take care of us, as though the government were a parental institution that would forever embrace us with "liberty and justice for all." We lost our vision, and we lost our purpose. We cast aside our responsibility and left others to take on the now boring tasks of understanding and participating in the political process. We became lazy and indulgent in the comforts of instant entertainment and information. We no longer take the time to read anything more complicated than romance or spy novels. Our schools have become ineffective in teaching substance and are now mere centers for social interaction which are only required to ensure that students are competent enough to follow orders. As a result of such carelessness, the embrace of liberty has turned to contempt. It has slowly tightened over the years until this moment when suffocation seems all but inevitable. It is in this last gasp that many are finding their visions, and are pushing away the distractions meant to shackle us. Let me show you the America that I envision. I envision a nation where individual liberty is held as a natural right. I envision a nation where people are responsible for their own burdens. I dream of an America which is built upon a foundation of freedom and not on a platform of legislative restrictions. I envision a nation that holds true to the constitution and seeks not to impose either iniquity or morality. A nation that keeps its people free from taxation and instead allows them to contribute their resources as they see fit. An America that does not allow any nation or alliance of such to impose laws or policies that violate our sovereignty. I envision a nation that promotes free enterprise and open mindedness. A nation that seeks not to engage in endless debate, speculation and name-calling and instead pursues the concerns and needs that the people request. I see a nation rich in culture and experiences. A nation that is informed and educated based on the principles of individual liberty and self-ownership. I dream of an America where government is small and fully controlled by the people. An America that gives refuge to those in need while keeping those who don't from violating our borders. A nation that ultimately respects the freedoms of each and every person, and teaches the necessary responsibility to protect them. I envision the America intended by those who founded it, and who, if here today would be saddened by our failure to uphold that which they sacrificed so much for. Indeed, Americans today should be ashamed of their carelessness. As Matthias Burnet once said, "Let not your children have reason to curse you for prostrating those institutions, and giving up those rights which your fathers delivered unto you." History sets a precedent. Let us not forget the past, so that we may better endure the future.


IN DEFENSE OF ARMS

COMMON SENSE for the CONCERNED AMERICAN

When considering the need for firearms in any modern society, one need look no further than those who have suffered helplessly at the mercy of armed criminals. It is indeed insanity to suggest that any person be asked to give up their most effective means of protection and to instead rely on the police. Unfortunately, there are people who have done exactly that. However, the people who tend to make these ludicrous suggestions tend to live in gated, patrolled communities far from the danger that is present to most Americans. Furthermore, they don't consider the fact that the police are a reactionary force and don't arrive until a crime is being committed. Then, assuming the perpetrator is ever actually caught, and assuming they are then convicted, in most cases they only serve for a short time, and then they are back on the streets to do it again. These people also do not consider the many places where the banning of guns, especially handguns, has caused massive crimewaves resulting in innocents being victimized at alarmingly increasing rates. Britain, Rwanda, Bosnia, Germany, and Washington D.C. should all serve as perfect examples of what becomes of a disarmed populace. Conversely, places where arms are not restricted and concealed carry acts have been passed, have proven to be much safer as crime rates, especially violent crime, have dropped significantly and are continuing a steady downward trend. However, upon asking the average American about the need for arms, their response rarely includes statistics or references to any particular document or piece of legislation. For the average American, it's personal. It's about their family and their ability to protect them. The average American has little need for the bravado displayed on either side of the issue, and cares even less about any experts or professionals who would speak on their behalf. The average American, simply put, doesn't give a damn. They will do whatever it takes to defend their family, their property, and themselves. Heaven help the fool who would test their resolve. The bottom line for law abiding Americans is common sense. Criminals by their nature and definition do not abide by the law. Therefore any laws that restrict the sale or possession of firearms only serves to take the best means of defense out of the hands of the people that need it most.

In Defense of Dedication

There are many people who look at our standards and our training and automatically decide that it is too hard, or too much trouble. After all, they have kids, a job, and all sorts of bills. Way too much on their plate already. They can't imagine finding time for going out to the field or spending money on weapons or gear. They make themselves believe that another attack, especially in their area is unlikely or impossible. There are also those that believe that all the training and vigilance in the world would not make an impact in the event we were attacked again. Yet we are still here. And we still train. Because we believe that just one person can make a difference. We believe that another attack is not only possible, but probable. We believe that attacks come not only from terrorists but from within. We believe that crime, tyranny, and terrorism are better deterred by our mere existance. We believe that the hardships we must endure and the efforts we must exert are what makes us true patriots. We don't just wave a flag at the local parade and walk away content with some temporary feeling of pride. We sweat and bleed for our cause. We aren't satisfied with the governments half hearted attempts to "give" us some implied freedom. We will settle for no less than complete, unrestricted liberty. Much like our full time brothers in arms we serve, to the best of our ability. Our sacrifice cannot be measured by some patriotic bumper sticker or yellow ribbon. We too have jobs, and kids, and bills. Yet we still find time to train, money to buy the gear, and effort to make a difference. Being a patriot means much more than flag waving or salutes or pledges. It means doing everything you can to keep this country pointed in the right direction. It means hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. And you will know it when you fire that first shot on the range. When you write your first congressman or senator. When you are out sweating and bleeding elbow to elbow with your countrymen, while many others are home watching T.V. Indeed, there are very few who possess the strength of character to stand in the face of adversity, and without those few, this nation will fall. It takes far more than good intentions to make a difference. It takes courage and hope and above all, it takes action. Especially, when it is easier to do nothing.


Question Everything 101

A Lesson in Critical Thinking

I am a person who likes to ask questions. I also encourage pretty much everybody to ask questions, or more importantly, question everything. Too often I find that many people, especially the younger generation, tends to move along through life accepting everything that is presented to them by media icons as the "truth." If for no other reason than because these icons to them seem to represent some kind of authority or superior intellect. Why else would they be on TV? It is a rare occasion when one of these people actually stops to question the motives of these icons. When they do, they find that they are not only being given a biased point of view, but they are being given an issue without any real relevance. As a result of the continual failure of people to turn off the TV and form their own opinions, it is America that is now losing relevance. I hope to show all Americans the way our country was originally intended to be. Not a nation of drones who believe whatever the biased media feeds them. Not a nation of parents who are turning over control of their children to the state because they fail to act against unconstitutional legislation. Not a nation of servants who are paying at least 50% of everything they own and earn in taxes to a government that should rightfully be a servant to its people. Not a nation of victims who would be helpless by giving up their only means of defense because some in society say those means are "dangerous." Not a nation at all, because our sovereignty is in jeopardy by those who would allow legislation from outside our borders. Our very existence is beginning a downward spiral. "The People" are quickly losing control of their government as well as control of their own lives. Our nation is under attack from the outside and within. We are being led by armchair experts embedded in news studios instead of the constitutionally limited officials that we elect. We cannot waste another moment. We must turn off the TV and send the message that we will not be distracted. We must get involved in our system and send the message that we will not be held down. Only action will send our message, and we MUST ACT NOW! I encourage people to ask questions, I also encourage them to stand up and find their own answers. I only hope i'm not too late.

This is our letter to the Presidents Tax Advisory Panel.

Members of the panel,

When considering solutions to the many complications and burdens brought by the tax system, one must consider the past. There is no greater test than that of time, for all things must endure time. Taxes, specifically the income tax, have failed that test. History has shown that for the short time that the income tax has been in effect, it has virtually enslaved Americans. Before the income tax took effect, America experienced an era of wealth and economic growth not seen by the rest of the world. Interestingly, it was also one of the most charitable in America's history. Citizens were free to contribute and excel without limits, resulting in a strong economy and widespread generosity. Citizens could transcend the social classes without restriction, the money they worked for was theirs to keep and spend as they saw fit. Sadly this is no longer the case. Today, many citizens are dependent upon the system and have lost the values of financial responsibility and strong work ethics. Indeed, common sense would dictate that the income tax is in direct opposition to the vision and principles on which this nation was founded. The citizens of this nation implore you to consider the following:

1. The income tax is based on the fundamental principle that the state has a higher claim on the fruits of a person's labor than they do. This is a violation of self-ownership, the most basic human right.

2. All taxes included, the average American pays between 50-70% of everything they own in taxes. From federal, state, and local income taxes, social security taxes, medicare, sales taxes, personal property taxes etc. Americans are vastly overtaxed.

Consider this, when the average American receives their paycheck, there are two parts that they are most concerned with. The first is the "GROSS WAGES" section, which shows them the amount of money they earned for providing their service. The second is the "NET WAGES" section, which shows them how much they will actually be able to put in the bank and pay their bills with. The question then, is why are these people, who work all day providing a service to someone for which they are paid, going to the bank with less than they agreed to work for.

Furthermore, there is no guarantee that the money being withheld will be enough to satisfy the appetite of the government, as they may be asked at the end of the tax year to pay more. Most people cannot afford to have the money withheld in the first place, much less be asked to come up with additional money to pay a lump sum for a tax they've already been paying all year. The tax system is also vastly unclear about how to file, who files, and if someone files incorrectly they could be making themselves liable for more taxes than if they filed differently. The complexity of the tax system makes it nearly impossible for anyone to file correctly on their own; often forcing them to have their taxes prepared by services who charge outrageous fees. This again creates a situation where Americans would be better served spending their money elsewhere, than on yet another unnecessary expense incurred by an unfair, unconstitutional and overcomplicated tax system.

Consider this, the selective service form tells you in straightforward simple terms that eighteen year old males are required to register and there is a clearly stated penalty if they do not. Conversely the income tax code is complicated and unclear. The forms say "if you are required to file" and do not state a specific penalty for not filing. Furthermore, in the privacy notice, it states that the records are routinely given to the Department of Justice, other unspecified federal agencies, and even to other countries. Every citizen's financial records and personal information is their business and should be kept private. In addition, citizens do not want and should not have their personal information disclosed to other countries. Given that the information is given to the DOJ, by merely filing, citizens are violating their own 5th amendment right to bear witness against themselves. This makes the income tax in direct conflict with the Constitution.Yet people who have not filed and have refused to submit their records to audit based on that principle have been convicted of evasion and sentenced to prison even though there is no clearly stated penalty for not filing, and that to file is a violation of their constitutional rights. This in turn makes everyone so convicted, falsely imprisoned. However, in spite of these facts, citizens continue to file out of fear. This is equivalent to the IRS saying "Your money, or else." Citizens do not want the money withheld from their paychecks but allow it to continue out of fear. This makes the tax system one of coercion, and therefore wrong. 

We the people therefore request, in the most humble of terms, a clear statement of truth, and a repeal of the sixteenth amendment. The citizens of this nation having put before this panel only one of many grievances, sincerely hope that you will bear true faith and allegience to the Constitution when considering the many responses that you will receive. Unfortunately, ther are far too many aspects of unfairness inherent in the tax system, and far too many examples or personal experiences to mention within the format set forth by this panel. Hopefully you will receive such responses from the many Americans who have experienced hardships brought by the tax system and who may better articulate its abuses. Please broaden your perspective and consider abolishing the tax system. While this may seem like a difficult and arduous task, it is your duty as servants of the people to make right, that which is in conflict with the U.S. Constitution and the individual liberty of every human being.


Below are some of our responses to Judy Thomas of the Kansas City Star, concerning an article she wrote for the front page of the Sunday, March 13th paper.

I recently read your article "Shadow of Hate Groups Lingers Upon Landscape" and I wanted to inform you of a few mistakes. In your article you associate the Michigan militia with hate groups like the kkk and the aryan nations. I will not contest that Mark Koernke was indeed guilty of his crimes but that should not reflect on the militia as a whole. The Michigan Militia is a constitutional advocacy group. They do not espouse hate. Those few associated with them that have displayed such ignorant behavior have been expelled from the group. For the most part they are a positive community organization that is misunderstood at worst. Now I am not going to say that the Michigan Militia is a model for modern militias but they are getting the right idea. On their site they make it clear that they will accept ANYBODY regardless of race, gender, political affiliation etc. granted, there were those that associated themselves with the militia and patriot movements but were either white supremacists or other racist hate groups. However, These types are not militias. I do not in any way support hate groups. The kkk, aryan nations, neo nazis, etc. are to me poor excuses for human beings and have only served in discrediting militias and dividing our society. You also seem to have militias confused with survivalists. Militias had nothing to do with Y2K. They do indeed promote emergency preparedness but not the "run to the hills and hide" mentality that is prevalent among so many survivalists. Most militias have a genuine interest in defending their communities and being active in the political process. As for the calendars sold by the Michigan Militia, I don’t really see how that had any relevance to the story. I don't expect you to issue any sort of retraction but in the future I would appreciate it if you didn't make patriots out to be bad people. We are simply concerned with the direction of our nation and want to do something about it. No hatred. No violence. Period.

In your article "SHADOW OF HATE GROUPS LINGERS UPON LANDSCAPE" you have single handedly destroyed much of the hard work and credibility that militias put forth to help keep you and everyone else in this country secure from foreign and domestic terrorism. By associating hate groups with the Michigan Militia and other Patriots, you are brushing aside the hard work many of your fellow countrymen are doing to try and protect us from these hate groups. I am not denying that Mark Koernke wasn’t ever a member of the Michigan Militia or not guilty of his crimes, I am simply stating that militias are good and do not believe in hate, those that do are not real militias.
